Many adults who have crooked or crowded teeth tend to live with the problem rather than face years in braces. If you would rather hide your smile than even think of wearing uncomfortable braces, there’s another solution you should consider.
At Fain Dental Arts, we offer Invisalign clear aligners, which have completely changed the way we approach orthodontic treatment for adults. Instead of uncomfortable metal brackets and wires that are fastened to your teeth, Invisalign uses removable smooth plastic aligners that fit over your teeth like a mouth guard and won’t irritate the tissues of your mouth.
The Invisalign Process
There are five steps to the Invisalign process:
Consultation and Evaluation – This is a crucial part of the process because we need to learn what you want to change about your smile and how we can help. We will review all the benefits of Invisalign and, based on an exam and evaluation, our doctors will explain what is needed to help you achieve your goal.
Planning Your Treatment – During the next step, our dentists take digital images and x-rays that are shared with a software program. Our doctors use the program to map out a plan and design a series of aligners that will move your teeth into the desired position. At this point, you will be able to see a virtual image of your straight new smile. This information is sent to an Invisalign lab where your custom aligners will be created.
Delivering Your Aligners – When they are ready, we will have you return to our office and deliver your custom aligners along with instructions for how they should be worn.
Straightening Your Teeth – Each set of aligners should be worn for about two weeks daily for at least 22 hours each day. At the end of the two-week period, you will switch to the next set in the series. You repeat this process until you have used all your aligners and treatment is complete, which usually takes about a year for adults. We will see you at our North Miami dental office every six weeks to check on your progress.
The aligners are comfortable to wear, and since they are clear plastic, most people won’t notice you’re wearing them. Since they are removable, you can take them out for eating, brushing and flossing, and even special occasions. Just remember that the longer you wear the aligners each day, the faster your treatment will be completed!
Wearing Your Retainer – After any orthodontic treatment, you must wear a retainer as directed by your dentist. You have invested a lot of time and money in achieving your goal of a straighter smile; if you don’t wear your retainer, you will undo all the work you have done, and your teeth will gradually relapse back into their original crooked position.
In addition to Invisalign clear braces, we also offer traditional bracket-and-wire braces that are appropriate if you require more extensive treatment. Dr. Fain will evaluate your needs and help you decide if you could benefit from traditional orthodontics.
