Sedation DentistryFain Dental Arts is a practice centered on excellent patient care. Our ideals extend to every patient, even those who feel extremely anxious about receiving dental care. When you are relaxed when sitting in the dentist's chair, examinations and treatment are completed more easily, and we are able to create a partnership based on trust. To keep our adult patients comfortable, we offer two forms of sedation to facilitate ease.
Nitrous Oxide SedationNitrous oxide is a sedative that is breathed in through a comfortable nasal mask. Also known as "laughing gas,” nitrous has been safely used in dentistry for decades. The nickname comes from the sedative's tendency to make patients feel a bit euphoric or giddy. Under its effects, however, one does not feel "drugged,” and is able to respond to Dr. Fain and our team. Delivered at the onset of treatment, nitrous oxide almost immediately decreases feelings of anxiety, and works in conjunction with local anesthetic to block discomfort during dental procedures.
This form of sedation is ideal in a number of scenarios, as there are no side effects, and the sedation wears off within just a few minutes of removing the mask at the end of a procedure. Feeling fully alert, patients have the ability to drive themselves home immediately after their appointments.
Oral SedationAn alternative to nitrous oxide is oral sedation, taken in pill form. Like nitrous, an oral sedative relieves feelings of fear and anxiety, while allowing the patient to remain conscious throughout his or her appointment. Oral sedation is given a few hours before an appointment, and it will last throughout treatment and for a few hours afterwards. Due to its effects, patients are advised to arrange transportation to and from appointments when sedation is used, and to rest comfortably until the sedative has worn off.
Dental anxiety affects millions of people, some of whom avoid visiting the dentist as a result. Incorporating conscious sedation into our practice, we enable those who suffer from dental anxiety to correct oral conditions and improve the look and health of their smiles without fear.
Fear does not have to stop you from achieving your healthiest smile. Contact Fain Dental Arts to learn how sedation can facilitate a better dental experience.
